Therefore let us serve as soldiers, brothers, with all earnestness under His blameless commands.
Let us consider those who serve under our military leaders, how orderly, readily, and submissively they carry out what is commanded.
Not everyone is a prefect, a tribune, a centurion, a commander of fifty, or anything of that sort. Instead, each person in his own rank carries out what is ordered by the emperor and the commanders.
The great cannot exist without the small, nor the small without the great. There is a certain intermingling in everything, and in this there is usefulness.
Let us take our own body. The head is nothing without the feet, and likewise the feet are nothing without the head. Even the smallest members of our body are necessary and useful to the whole body; but all work together and share one submission so that the whole body may be preserved.
