I have learned that your mind is blameless and unwavering in endurance, not by habit but by nature, as Polybius your bishop showed me. He came to Smyrna by the will of God and of Jesus Christ and so shared my joy as I am bound in Christ Jesus that in him I could behold your whole congregation.

Having therefore received through him your godly goodwill, I glorified God, finding you, as I had learned, to be imitators of God.
